This project takes the convivial kitchen as a site of creativity, collaboration, and community, and serves as a cross-cultural point of connection and empathy. Ulu in Hand was inspired by the women of the Inuit Collective Kitchen of Chez Doris, who come together once a week to share a traditional meal. The ulu, the knife traditionally used by Inuit women, became an icon of the project and a reminder of people for whom we were working. The products were sold at a pop-up shop, the proceeds of which were donated to the collective to support their cultural gathering.
